Community Involvement:
Robert has served on the Carpinteria City Planning Commission since 1995, becoming its Chair in 2002.
In 2002, Robert became President of the California Counties Architects and Engineers Association.
In 2002, Robert became a Santa Barbara Courthouse Docent, the first County Architect to do so.
in 2003, Robert was elected to the Board of the Architectural Foundation, Santa Barbara.

 

Book Collecting:
A library numbering in excess of 600 volumes, include a number of rare Frank Lloyd Wright books.

Presentations:
Thursday, April 18, 2002: Presentation of Santa Barbara County Historic Courthouse history to Courthouse Docent Council. This was a 40 minute talk with a walking tour to the Archives of the County Architect's Office.

Monday, April 29, 2002: Walking tour with KCOY 12 Morning Show. This is a live morning show between 6am and 8am each morning. The theme of this walking tour is how the Courthouse represents Santa Barbara County's' historical ties to Spanish heritage. Four individual segments over the course of the two hour show will air.

Friday, September 20, 2002, Robert will be presenting a Ground Source project overview to the CCAEA and CCFSA at their annual meeting in Morro Bay. Joining Robert in this presentation will be Bob Helt, P.E., who will cover details of Ground Source Technology.

Conferences:
League of California Cities 2003 League of Cities--Planners Institute: San Diego, CA. March 20 to 22, 2003. This is an annual conference of professional planners, city staff and planning commissioners. Robert will be presenting a talk title "Anatomy of a Planning Commission Hearing" (handout version-500 kb) (view online-best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or newer). 28th Annual California Preservation Conference: Santa Barbara, CA. April 24 to April 27, 2003: This conference is for professional preservationist, governmental staff, legal profession, property owners and construction industry folks. Robert is hosting the Opening Reception in his capacity as County Architect at the Historic County Courthouse. He will also be moderating an educational session that presents important local Santa Barbara architects. In addition, he is expected to present the recently restored Courthouse Flagpole Eagle during the 3-Minutes Success Stories event.

April 28 to May 1, 2004: This conference is for professional preservationist, governmental staff, legal profession, property owners and construction industry folks. With preservation architect, Britton Jewett, Robert will be leading a presentation on the architectural work of the William Mooser Company. The William Mooser Company is responsible for a few of the Nations most important architectural works, including the Woolen Mill, National Maritime Museum and the Historic Santa Barbara County Courthouse
