Pre-Demolition of Old Building

Original Casa Nueva

The original Casa Nueva building was used by area Fire Departments for training. The Urban Search And Rescue USAR team worked in the building as well. They simulated an earthquake for purposes of rescue. The temporary shoring can be seen holding up the building.

View from Casa Mural Parking

The shape of the original building was an "I", the back cross of the I is being removed.

Two move views...

The original Casa Nueva was constructed as housing for the nursing staff, who worked in the County Hospital. In 1918, this, and five other buildings comprised the "County Poor Farm". The drawings and specifications can be viewed in the Architectural Archives of the Office of the County Architect.

Back Wing is down
We were not able to save the pepper tree. A few bricks from the original Casa Nueva are in the Archives as part of the keeping of history.

Lower Site is clean.

Getting ready for demolition...the Demolition Contractor cleared a path for removal of the building.

New utilities have been installed (you can see the patching in the concrete and asphalt)

Fire Department Training Damage

The damage in the right picture was caused by a D-8 and the Fire Department.

Additional Views of Fire Department Training...
We were happy to let the Fire Department "play" in the building...very valuable training occurred.

Are with most damage...
