Second Concrete Pour

Elevator Pit Footings and Cast Iron Pipes

The elevator pit steel bars are a mesh of #4,5 and 8 reinforcement bars. The cast iron pipes are installed prior to footing concrete and floor slam pours.

Footing Steel Inspection...just 30 minutes prior to pour...The only women steel worker.

Each footing, grade beam and vertical wall reinforcement bars is inspected prior to pouring concrete. Yvonne, the only women steel worker on the job helps to make adjustments requested by the Building Inspector.

First truck of the day arrives.
There were a total of 11 trucks delivering 3000 psi concrete to the site today.

Steel Column Footing (inside and out)

Footing Steel and Column "Implants", vertical steel for concrete shear walls.

Pouring the "mud"
The concrete is pumped to the footing location by a pumper truck. An additive is placed in the concrete mix that gives it the consistency of cream cheese, which makes it easy to pump.

More mud....

Plywood bulkheads keep the concrete where the contractor plans to stop. This becomes a "cold-joint", a place the building can move.

Getting the air bubbles out of the concrete.

As the concrete is pumped, air pockets or bubbles form. These have to be removed to achieve the design strength...so a vibration tools is used to "jiggle" the concrete as it is poured.
