Jan 30th.: Original Casa Nueva.

Feb 4th.: Demolition is Underway.

The original Casa Nueva comes down.


March 19th.: Clean Site--Project Preconstruction Meeting

The Contractor, Architect and County Architect PM are just to the lower right.

April 1st.: Vegetation Goes.
Most of the tall palms were saved, as well as the large Oak (not pictured). The San Antonio Building is in the background (designed by Julia Morgan in 1918).


April 3rd.: Grading starts for new Casa Nueva

A husband and wife team begin the grading operations to prepare the site for the new building..

April 17th.: The BIG dig is on!
Almost 22,000 cubic yards of soil was removed to prepare the design pad for the new building. The excess soil is stockpiled near Casa Mural (the red tile building in the upper right).

April 24th.: Grading Continues

The D-8 is some ten feet lower than the pavement to the right.

May 1st.: Grading Continues...
The palms trees have been relocated or removed. The large oak tree can be seen (middle left) with the orange fence around it for protection.


May 8th.: The pad is ready!

The site is now ready for the layout and excavation of building footings.

May 15th.: The foundation sub-contractor is underway.
The new courtyard area is being used as the staging are...with "drop-off" containers.


May 21st.: Steel going in!

The area is where the large retaining walls will go.

   
 

May 22nd.: Steel continues to going in!

All footings area have some level of working underway. The building is "L" shaped, we are viewing the "L" from the inside bend.

   
 

May 31st.: With 2 concrete pours...things move fast.

This is the second pour of concrete...11 trucks...several hundred yards of concrete.

   

June 5th.: With 3 concrete pours...things move fast.

This is the third pour of concrete...13 trucks...several hundred yards of concrete.

 

   

June 12th.: Work Has Gone Vertical

The elevator pit, vertical shear walls and retaining wall have begun to take shape.

   

June 17th.: Work Has Gone Vertical

Vertical shear wall concrete was poured today.
